Masks can be a godsend for struggling skin, which was the motivation behind my latest beauty purchase. My skin has been breaking out a lot recently – something which may or may not have a little something to do with too many packets of Oreos…
Having used the Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay mask in the past and loved it, I decided to give this one a try!
Containing bamboo charcoal*, green tea leaves and tea tree oil, this is an “invigorating” mask designed to draw out impurities and reduce the appearance of pores leaving “healthy-looking skin with a glow that shows”. Sounds promising – if a little expensive at £16.
*if you’re as clueless as me, Wikipedia tells me that this comes from bamboo plants burned in ovens and has excellent absorption properties
I found this mask easy to apply and generally pretty enjoyable due to its lovely smell (kind of a perfume-floral scent) and thick texture which means no slipping and sliding around on the skin.
There was a slight tingling sensation for at least the first couple of minutes after I applied it, but nothing too intense. Although a patch test for those with sensitive skin would definitely be a good idea.
As you can see above, there are little chunks of the bamboo charcoal in the formula which is great for exfoliation as you apply the mask.
Removing face masks is generally my least favourite part of the process. It usually involves me trying to mush my face under the sink tap and trying not to get anything in my eyes…
However, this one actually wasn’t too bad to remove. The texture exfoliates your skin as you remove it too. Plus it’s not too difficult to remove (a drawback of the Tea Tree mask that I previously had from the Body Shop which required quite a lot of scrubbing to fully remove it)
I genuinely love the way this mask leaves my skin. It feels super smooth, and looks healthier. My makeup always seems to apply better after having used this mask and it reduces the appearance of my pores for sure.
Overall I would highly recommend this mask. It is a little on the pricey side but you get a decent amount of product which should last for a while. If you struggle with texture or enlarged pores this is definitely a mask for you!
