I feel like drugstore brands are really stepping up their game when it comes to foundations. Barry M is definitely one of these brands. I haven’t bought anything from them in years but their Flawless Matte Finish foundation caught my eye. I was sold on the fact that it is oil-free and hydrating – an ideal formula for my combination to oily skin. I have used this foundation now for a couple of weeks, and have been absolutely loving it!
The packaging is fine, especially considering its price point (£5.99) It is small, compact and has a pump – ideal for travelling. The packaging actually kind of reminds me of a cheaper version of Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation packaging – is that just me!?
I picked up the shade Ivory which suited my skin tone perfectly. It is actually very similar to the shade I am in my Born this Way foundation which is the perfect colour and undertone for my skin. My only complaint is how tiny the shade selection is. There’s only six shades and nothing for deeper skin tones. Barry M definitely need to look in to expanding their shade range.
The packaging of this foundation states that it is “an oil free formulation, containing soothing moisturisers with skin healing properties, for a flawless matte finish”. It’s quite rare to find a product that delivers on all the amazing promises professed on it’s packaging. Yet, I would say that this foundation lives up to its claims.
I found the formula to sit somewhere in the middle of thick and liquidy. This meant it was not so liquidy that it provided absolutely no coverage but also not so thick that it felt cakey on my skin. In fact, this foundation feels nice and light on the skin, almost like I’m not wearing foundation at all. There is no tacky finish or strong smell – both things that I dislike in a foundation. This meant that it was very comfortable to wear and also does actually feel very hydrating, even after I bake which can sometimes leave my skin a but dry under my eyes and around my mouth.
The only thing to watch with the formula is that I would say it was medium coverage. This is fine, as it does not claim to be anything else, but it is something to bear in mind if full-coverage is something that you are looking for in a foundation. However, I found that it could be built up nicely to a more medium to full coverage. It did not cake up if you added extra layers and other products, such as concealer and blush, sat really nicely on top of it.
This foundation lasts fairly well on my skin. A whole day in fact with a couple of touch ups here and there. It does not flake off or fade in weird ways as some foundations can. The fact that it is oil-free also seemed to help my T-zone stay matte for longer. With baking I found that my face stayed matte all day – a rarity for me!
A really amazing day to day foundation for a really affordable price. I have been using it constantly for the past couple of weeks and still love it just as much as when I first put it on my face. For an evening or night out I would probably still go for a more full coverage foundation but for day-to-day, school or just for people who prefer a lighter finish, I would highly recommend this foundation!
