Primark Blender Sponges

I don’t know what I would do without beauty sponges. They make applying and blending product out so easy and don’t leave the brush strokes that some brushes can. However, they are something that definitely need to be replaced after a couple of months. No matter how much you wash them they aren’t going to last forever. With that in mind, I set out to find a sponge that combined great quality and value. These ‘Blender Sponges’ from Primark caught my eye for their price – £1.50 for a two pack. I was really hoping these would be good in order to save me some money!

You get two pink sponges in the pack, which are slightly different shapes. To be honest, I have no preference between the shapes, I use them in the same way, but it’s nice to have some options!

I always dampen my sponges and like it when they really expand in size. It seems to make makeup blend even easier and end up with a nice dewy finish. Unfortunately, these Primark sponges did not really expand (see the difference between the dry and damp sponges below). In fact I found it difficult to get them to absorb any water at all.

One plus side of their non-absorbent nature is that they won’t soak up too much of your product which can be an issue with some sponges. When you are using an expensive foundation or concealer you do not want to waste a drop!

However, the fact that they did not absorb the water meant the sponges remained very hard and unflexible. This made blending product out pretty difficult and meant it was also quite painful to bounce the sponge across your face.

Overall I would say these sponges are good if you want to try out a product like the Beauty Blender but don’t want to spend that much (which to me is understandable, I still haven’t been able to bring myself to buy a Beauty Blender yet!) However, don’t expect anything amazing. They are hard to use and don’t produce the same results as more quality sponges. I would recommend something like the Real Techniques sponge which, at £4.99, is worth that little bit more investment. Let me know if you have any suggestions for some other beauty sponges to try out.
