Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipstick

I’ve been seeing this product at the Bourjois counter for years but never picked it up. It was a bit of a cult favourite back in 2014, so I thought I would see what all the fuss was about. Maybe I also just couldn’t resist adding another lip product to my collection….but let’s pretend it was for the first reason.

I picked up the colour 07 Nude-ist for £8.99 at Superdrug. It is a beautiful pinky-nude, a shade or two darker than my natural lip colour. It’s perfect for everyday wear just to add some colour to the lips. Although, just a warning, it is a lot more pink on the lips than it looks in the bullet, or even on swatches. I like the simple packaging and the doe-foot applicator makes it easy to apply. It went on smoothly and was fairly pigmented – only one layer was needed.

One thing I disliked was how long it took to dry. I think it took about five minutes in the end which, compared to more recent liquid lip products, is a lifetime! It didn’t dry down completely and was left tacky. This wasn’t too uncomfortable but just means that it is not transfer-proof at all. When I was eating, I ended up with some on both my nose and my chin which is a first for me!

Talking of eating (as always), this product also wasn’t particularly long-lasting. Despite its claims of 24 hour wear, it lasted only around two hours on me. When I did eat or drink it would come off even quicker. It would also leave that dreaded ring of product on the outside of the lips but rub off in the centre, so it’s definitely one that you’ll want to touch up throughout the day.

In its defence, however, it was comfy to wear and not too drying on the lips. It promises a light texture and comfort wear, both of which I would agree with. It was much more moisturising than most liquid lipstick, thanks to its creamy texture.

Overall, I would say that there are so many liquid lipsticks out there now that have overtaken this (as sad as that is to say). It may have been a trailblazer on the high-street but it’s now kind of become run-of-the-mill. That’s not to say I won’t continue to use it. After all, it is still a lovely colour and a decent formula. However, there are many other liquid lipsticks that I reach for and would recommend over this one.
